I managed to get the Klymit Static V mat (times 2) for R1199 each (incorrectly marked price instore at Cape Union Mart!!!).

Will test them out next week in the Lotheni area and give feedback.

Hi Guys,

are any of you looking to sell you camping matress, perhaps some walking sticks/poles and also long gaiters? I want to do a snow hike but need some more equipment!

Best regards

Hi Walter

Have a look at this, it might not be ideal but its a start if you are strapped: www.mrpsport.com/en_za/jump/OUTDOOR/Insulated-Eva-Mat--6mm/productDetail/7_6351010013/cat1240055/general (weight is 250g, I bought one as a compliment to a blow-up mattress). Also, Hi-Tec makes trekking poles for R300 a set, or you could try Dis-Chem. In terms of gaiters, your cheapest option for proper gaiters is probably First Ascent (R300 or something a set). I have also been scouring the earth for gear the past few months, so thought I could add.

Thanks for the tips G. I would never think dischem would work but will check it out anyway. Will def try MRP. It looks like I have found some luck on the OLX app for gloves and gaiters. Will check gumtree and see if I cant find second hand hiking kit heaven...

Hi guys
Does anyone have any feedback on this
www.capeunionmart.co.za/k-way-air-lite-matress
Especially in terms of comfort and weight.
Looking for something a bit more comfortable than my kway compact,
and this is advertised to weigh the same..
Cheers

I've seen it in store and it does seem quite comfy and does roll down nice and small...I would be worried about how long it would take to blow up, or rather how much effort that would take

Shot Macc, I think it's between this and a JR Gear.
I'll ask my buddy who has a JR Gear about the blowing up...

I'd say the JR would have the edge ito insulation.
FYI: After reading TonyMarshall's post about the valve position on the JR gear mattress, I asked Due South about this and they only stock the one with the valve position on the seam. Not sure who has the other model with the valve on the top layer.

if you are worried about having to blow up your mattress with just your lungs you could get one of these...I've never seen one in SA though, infact I had never heard about it before, but there are a bunch of different brands offering them.

Macc, my wife has one and she is quite small and short. She has never complained about inflating it, if it was an issue I woud have had to inflate it :-) Only takes a few minutes and then you have a really good night's sleep. I wouldn't worry too much about it.
