Thanks for the advice andre r. I went for the Arc'teryx, even though the Rab is better in its own way. Just had a feel for the Arc'teryx that got me hooked. And the reviews are great too. I will give feedback about the performance on this "Down Jackets" thread afte testing ;-)

Their prices seem reasonable + they're local + they specialise in Down Products. Anyone have an opinion on them?

Anyone using Makoti stuff?
I see there's a sale on at the moment.

To be honest, I've never heard of it. Thanks for the link though and will be sure to check it out. Hopefully someone still gives feedback here.

I've spent some time this morning reading about Makoti, checking reviews and chatting to people. Good to know we have such superb value locally made. Prices look great and specs to. And they get rave reviews for service. Worth checking out it seems.

Wezleyb, how do you get the jacket from usoutdoor.com to South Africa? Aren't their shipping very expensive?

While shopping for my little one the other day at Pick n Pay clothing, I noticed that they had some down jackets for sale.

Definitely down though not sure of the mix ratio. Easily compressed in the palm of two hands.

Priced at R750, they are half of what you will pay anywhere else.

The quality seemed very similar to what I have seen at other outdoor retail shops for double the price.

Sometimes these things all come from the same shop in China and the fancy sticker makes all the difference in price.

Would have got one but pockets had developed holes.
