My younger daughter loves hiking (her first hike was three days of the Giants cup trail at 9 years) the older one hasn't really enjoyed the walk just the destination. Trying to find something to bribe her with is proving to be difficult.

Hi Guys,

Can this hut be booked and if yes, through what party is this done? Would appreciate a contact number or email address if available

I have stayed there at least 20 times over the last few years and never felt a need to book. It is uncommon even to share the hut with anyone else

Personaly I am agreeing whith that. The fees at sentinel car park appear to be :
Toll gate entry fees: Adults R30pp
Day hiking Fees R60pp
One-way travelers hiking fees R60pp
Overnight on top of mountain R140pp

What sould be paid, the whole per day, 200R per day ... ?

If you get there early enough the toll isn't manned.
The office at Sentinel car park charges a per day and not a per night fee like the EKZNW controlled areas. (Well they did last time I hiked from there)

“Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, So… get on your way!”

If you start a GT at the Sentinel Car Park you pay a fixed fee of about R160 regardless of number of days or distance.

I have lots of fun filling in a mountain register. An entry such as "Up corner pass, down Ships Prow bagging every khulu inbetween" describes your exact route with as much accuracy as if had you attached a gps track.

What I would like to see is a sensible way to share SPOT addresses with the rescue team. You cannot write the thing down so it needs some scheme to "register" it in advance

Hi all, we're planning a hike up the chain ladders to Ribbon Falls next weekend. Up the ladders on Friday and back down on Monday. We're aiming to camp at Ribbon Falls but we have'nt decided where else. Anyone else going up there?
Any recommendations on somewhere else to overnight?
Thanks, Lee-Ann
