It always was book-able, have done it on numerous occasions and have seen it in their book where they write the bookings. There is a possibility that they have revised their booking list and taken it off, but I would phone them again and persist in the matter. What exactly was their response when you asked them the first time?

Take nothing but litter, leave nothing but a cleaner Drakensberg.

The response I had gotten was that "is there a hut there?" "only hut is the fire lookout" "you know it has started raining"
So I kindly asked if she could write in in the booking book and I was going to try confirm/get more info here.

Thanks to those members that have given up of their time to ensure the hut is usable and in what I understand, is in great working order.
I was there last September and people had booked it so we camped a little further down stream at the contour path, hence I believed it to be bookable.
Do you perhaps know which of the VE family I can contact then to get permission to sleep there?

It's not a VE hut, it still belongs to EKZNW, we just helped restore it.

As mentioned, try again & hopefully you get a different person at reception. I've also seen it listed in the bookings book before.
Otherwise with it being a Sunday night the chances of another hiking party being there are slim

We're hopefully using the Tseketseke hut over the weekend. The person who booked the hut phoned Didima reception and were told that we may pay at reception R50 per person per night. (Booked on Monday)

Has anyone used the hut in rain before?
With the weather forecast I just want to find out if we should be concerned with leaking from the roof or water flowing underneath the shelter? Been on the mountains many times but this will be my first time using a hut.

We will watch out for you Andreas we are in the area - the wife and I are doing the contour path junction C9 to C6 at pace and hopefully only light rain on Saturday morning!

Hi Andreas,

The sides and roof of the hut are in good condition and you should stay dry in the rain. If there is wind, rain may blow in a bit through the gaps in the front window shutter, but it shouldn't be too bad and you could probably take care of sealing the gaps with extra clothes, empty plastic bags etc. The floor should be fine too, the sides of the hut extend into the ground, and there is a thick layer of straw on the floor.
