I was wondering about that yesterday, Stijn! Looks like a serious prospect!

Yeah! Looking at it from this angle, I'm very surprised it goes (only just)... Definitely one to do with a light pack.

When we were there we thought the other side of the fissure probably also goes - the side that comes up on the left (west?) side of Tony's Mystery Khulu. We traversed from the khulu through another gully onto the escarpment. It is actually a great vantage point - just a shame I had my cheap old camera with me. Didn't feel like lugging 2kg of gear and then end up with an almost identical batch of photos to what I have taken in the past (not that that's what would have happened).Stijn wrote: Yeah! There's something wrong with the date of the GT for the youngest participant. The first of David Gay's youngsters did the 1999 GT, which I was also on, both were about 16 years old and I can't remember if Andrew Lanham or Sven Lesicnic was the youngest. Guy Salomon (as far as I know no relation of Otto Solomon, and too young to be his father) was the previous record holder before Hobbit, but he must have done his GT in the late 2000's or even after 2010, definitely not in the 90's, early or mid 2000's.

@Tony: you'll know better than I do. The answer would be easy to find if the MBC website's GT list was working properly.

Just checked with Dave - the record stood from 2011.

Thanks ghaz, I was hiking with Dave and Guy around that time, but couldn't remember exactly when. I've since had a look at my records and see that it was in 2010 and 2011, so right around the time when Guy become the youngest GT finisher - here is a photo of Guy Salomon and me on the summit of Thaba Ngwangwe in February 2013.
I wish MBC would update the records too, there are a few years of the GT records missing in the early 2000's, and it's impossible that nobody has that information. It saddens me that this was the period when Jenny Owen (who I did 3 GT's with) started leading the MBC GT, and the incomplete records don't reflect the number of consecutive years Jenny did (and led) GT's.
