Doesn't an official GT need to include the 6 pre-determined peaks?ghaznavid wrote:

Those peaks are only for a speed GT. There is no defined rule for what counts as a GT, so the hint would be that the full name is a "Traverse of the KwaZulu-Natal High Berg Escarpment". My personal definition for a GT is that you need to tag 3 checkpoints for it to count:Smurfatefrog wrote: Doesn't an official GT need to include the 6 pre-determined peaks?
1) The Tugela River above the falls
2) Any point within a 1km diameter of Long Wall Peak
3) Any saddle/summit on the Walkers ridge
AndrewP doesn't like my definition as he points out that a GT from Golden Gate, that goes over Mont-Aux-Sources would not meet this criteria. Perhaps 1) should be something like "Tugela above the falls or the Mont-Aux-Sources ridge", although that would exclude someone going over by Namahadi. Perhaps a pass north of the chain ladders/Beacon Buttress gully - but anyway...

Admittedly, even though I have only been back for 9 days, I would be lying if I said that I didn't really want to head back to the Berg soon!

I can only imagine how epic a GT must be. Would love to do it one day but will seriously (SERIOUSLY) need to up the hiking fitness for such an epic trip.
Thanks for the share and well done to Hobbit. It must be great having that kind of exposure in the Berg at such a young age, what a privilege.
