Satellite view of snow on 18 September 2024
And the 19 September 2024
The snow on the 20th and 21st September will fall onto a cold surface. That tends to allow more accumulation and slow the subsequent melt.

Hi all. We are planning to hike Tugela Falls on Sunday and spend the night. Any idea on the snow situation? Seeing conflicting reports

There will be snow.
The roads are likely to be troublesome on Saturday 21 Sept though.

The best might be to contact Witsieshoek Mountain Lodge to check the road situation and the condition of the hiking trail. They posted on their Facebook page this morning that the road leading up to them will be closed for 24-48 hours.

We spent Friday night in Sleeping Beauty cave.
Arrived at Garden Castle to about a foot of snow at 3pm
Set off at 4pm, the 4km to the cave took us 3.5 hours, thick snow covering the path, trees/bushes down and darkness didn't make it easy
Snowed all of Friday night, and only stopped around 10h30 Saturday morning
Heading back down on Saturday morning the snow was over knee deep with a few additional obstacles
