Snow Watch 2025 was created by JonWells
This is the official thread for Snow Watch 2025. Feel free to post pictures, information, questions and reports about the snow conditions in the Drakensberg for 2025. The idea is to keep track of the snowfalls, pool information about where the snow is for those that want to go see it, and simply to have a place to express the joy and experiences you may have had if you have witnessed the grandeur of the Dragon clothed in white. This also serves as a historical reference for years to come.

Take nothing but litter, leave nothing but a cleaner Drakensberg.

Thanks @JonWells for handling the Snow Watch threads! As a reminder to everyone who follows these, he also maintains a summary of the snowfall events for the year which is updated on the first post of each annual thread. Be sure to check it out.

Well as it stands, there seems to be a fair chance for the first snow of 2025 to fall over parts of the escarpment tomorrow and early Wednesday.
As is common for early season events, conditions are very touch and go for snow, with much of precipitation predicted to fall as rain, with some periods of snow possible, especially on the highest peaks.

Tugela looks like it is pumping.
Would think that this year will have significant snow with all this moisture around and later La Niña.

Soooo pretty!!!
I really hope it snows properly this year. Was robbed from a lekker snow hike late last year when Van Rheenens and Oliviershoek pass was closed for traffic over the weekend (had to turn around at Warden), but I think this year there will be more snow hiking opportunities.

There’s too much high cloud from the cut off low/breaking Rossby wave for the satellite imagery to reveal snow but there are ground-based photos from Letseng, Sani and Afriski. The highest ground has received snow there.
The freezing level in the models was a few hundred meters above the surface.
