Andrew also did a time from Injisuthi, 7h58 iirc. Giants is further, but on good trails with no overgrown bits.

Reading between the lines, looks like the coach is gathering intel for a Ryno & Ryan attempt tomorrow...

When Ryan Sandes posted about Mafadi a few days ago I asked him if he was shooting for the FKT. He asked for more info, so I sent him a link to Andrew's story on the Epic Day Hikes thread. Would be interesting to see how they go.

I only know of 3 passes that have been used on a Mafadi FKT - Leslies, Apes and Judge. Corner could be interesting to throw into the mix, but I can't see any route being faster than Judge Pass. I wonder how fast Judge Pass from Injisuthi would be...

The two of them ran past me whilst I was going up to Marble Baths on Saturday morning. Quite a pace!

Ryan Sandes shared on FB that he was running up Mafadi today:
share.findmespot.com/shared/faces/viewspots.jsp?glId=01LUJGdKHRDRWQvJunkKClXk04o6uVDep

Looking at the track, he started around 5:35, hit Mafadi at about 9 and was back at about 11:25. That would be around 5h50! Also of note - he used Corner Pass both ways. Well done Ryan and Ryno

I thought Corner Pass will be cool from Injisuthi. Turns out it was...

I have created a thread specifically for more detailed discussions on the Mafadi FKT:
www.vertical-endeavour.com/forum/14-drakensberg-general/55909-mafadi-fkt.html

Remember there is also a thread for dealing with the broader definitions, philosophies and rules of FKT's in the Berg:
www.vertical-endeavour.com/forum/14-drakensberg-general/55825-drakensberg-fkts-fastest-known-times-definition-and-rules.html

As much as possible, please try keep posts on this thread limited to short snippets recording actual attempts/times of FKTs.

Take nothing but litter, leave nothing but a cleaner Drakensberg.

Looks like Ryno and Ryan did a fast night ascent of Giant's Castle this morning - they left the resort at 2:10am, were on top of Giant's Castle by 5:45am and back down at the resort in time for breakfast at 8am. share.findmespot.com/shared/faces/viewspots.jsp?glId=01LUJGdKHRDRWQvJunkKClXk04o6uVDep

Are there any existing FKTs for Giant's Castle? This would certainly be up there, despite doing it in the dark...

That is quick for the dark but I think it could be done much quicker in the light, especially by those two.

I say this based on a chat I had a while back with Dreyer van Huyssteen, who has run quite a bit in the berg, at Giants and with Ryno. I remember he mentioned something about under 5 hours.

EDIT:
Just got a message from Dreyer - he says he can't remember his exact Giants direct time, but he has done 6hrs up Langies -to the summit and back along the Bannerman path. He reckons Ryan and Ryno could do Giant's direct way quicker and that they probably had a cup of tea on the summit.
