Four of us are hiking from the Giants side and going up Judges pass - we will be tenting the second night below Upper Injasuti Cave and then spending the next day and night in the Red Wall/Hilton Pass area. We will return via Bannermans Pass - hope to see you guys!

Are you guys staying up there for 2 months :P (they're going in November)

Hi Elaine

We will see you there, we are hiking in from Injisuthi on Saturday. We will be overnighting at the base of Judge Saturday Night, ascending Judge Pass on Sunday morning. Sunday Night we will be overnighting in the valley next to Leslies Pass and Monday morning decent via Leslies back to Injisuthi.

Would be cool see you guys on the mountain.

Regards

Hi Guys

So I am taking some advice from fellow forum members and planning a overnight hike at Rustig ( Day 1 9km & Day 2 4km ) . I have never hiked here or a lot at all and was wondering if anybody wanted to join me? We could perhaps just do the day hike as well.

Cheers

Hey Guys

I know this is a longshot, but Im in a bit of a predicament. My whole hiking party suddenly came up with excuses for the hike this coming long weekend and I seriously want to get to the berg:( .... Was wondering if there is any space in a car driving up from Pretoria, Friday Afternoon/Saturday and returning Monday for two people ( willing to help out with fuel and toll costs).... driving on our own will just overshoot our budget for the weekend as we are both students. Not really fussy about the area as Im willing to hike just about anything.

Thanks in Advance

Cheers

Hi Bruere.

If you choose the "2 Day" hike and for the night to not use the hut/house with all it's luxuries, but rather to pitch your tents, use own cooking equipment and use the veld as a toilet it could work for some light training (light = you're not getting the same vertical accent and weather as you would on a Drakensberg pass/escarpment). Depending on your available time I would suggest for day two, to quickly hike back to Rustig and do another shorter day hike up to the cliffs as well. (Day two is very flat and only somewhere between 5-8km if they haven't changed the route) Then you will get some opportunity to test your equipment in a safe/comfortable environment and with day two to add some more vertical training.

I did the "2 Day" hike last year as a day hike for some training with a light daypack and if I remember correctly it was 18km long. "Day 1" is amazing, up and along the cliffs, there are some ladders, hiking on top and down our tiny (compared to Drakensberg) and beautiful Magalies mountains. "Day 2" was very flat and (then, hopefully fixed by now) most of the signage was missing/knocked off by game. Lekker route for a casual introduction to hiking.

If you're looking for just a day hike I could suggest their I think it's called "Karee" route with a fully loaded back pack (and some extra weight for training). It's an amazing 13km route that I've probably done two or three times already and will definitely be back for again. It takes longer than you would think for a 13km route with that amount of altitude gain.

Let me know when you're going, if it can work out I would love to join otherwise may it be an amazing time!

Hi Bruere.

It would have been lekker but I've already got plans for the next two weekends. May it be an amazing trip!

And remember to pack that extra weight for training to get used to the backpack! Extra 2L coke bottles refilled with water is a cheap and easy way and if there is trouble you can easily pour out the extra weight and be able move quickly.

And they don't cut your pack up like rocks do

Notably also helpful when you didn't carry enough water.
