The issue for me with a liner on the inside of the bag is weight. When you walk in the rain for hours on end eventually the bag absorbs moisture and it can add a surprising amount of weight to your pack. Bag cover on the outside = no additional weight from rainwater. Also tends to throw off snow a bit easier.

Rumour is Cape Union Mart in Canal Walk (CPT) is stopping selling climbing gear and are selling off their stock for cheap...if anyone is close enough to take advantage.

Hi. In Centurion there is Hikers Paradise which had a while ago. Near Midas, other end of the building.

There is also a new shop at BylsBridge. A short walk up from Sportsmans Warehouse.
Camp and Climb.

Their inside branch has never had climbing equipment. Their Adventure Centre branch on the roof of Canal Walk has had a limited range but I went there today to buy some compression socks and nothing. No climbing gear at all. Unless they moved it upstairs, but it was never there before :) But they do have some specials on and "up to" 50% off many items.

@AdrianT: The Adventure Centre was the one I meant, didn't know there was another branch bactually were selling most of their climbing equipment online as well at 50% off but was all gone before I realised.

In other news the Cape Union Mart - Save the Buck sale has started
