I also don't realistically see VE members posting "thousands of adverts" so we can rest easy there.

Drimac in IreneVillage Mall is having a clearance sale as the shop is closing down. So prices are marked down for 50% less or more.
I bought a Drimac in a Sac rain pants and jacket for R299!!!! Previously R799. So definitely worth a look. Not many sizes left.
Weighs about 450g for the pants and jacket packed. And very good intelligent design with hiking in mind.
Note that they only take CASH sales.

To iterate previous posts, any person referencing a brand of gear, or any company/business, has to be completely free of any affiliation or relationship whatsoever to that brand or company. Even posting as a favour to them is not permitted. This is all viewed as promotional content and advertising, for which a proper agreement with VE must first be reached.
In order to prevent abuse of this particular thread, anyone posting here from now on must be a familiar member of the site. To help the moderators, anyone posting to this thread must have been a member on VE for longer than a month and must have made at least 5 prior posts on other topics. If these criteria are not met, I have asked the moderators to immediately delete the post. And even if the criteria are met, please remember that we still reserve the right to edit or delete any material we deem to be unsuitable. Anyone that is found to be posting promotional content without permission, even just by suspicion, might also have their account suspended.
Thanks for everyone's cooperation.

Hi All, I was at Due South in Clearwater (Johannesburg) on Sunday and I saw they have 25% off hiking backpacks. There is a Osprey Volt 60 for R2700, then you will only pay about R2100 for it with the discount.

Hi All
So this isn't a sale per say, but a new store that has opened up in Johannesburg with some really low priced gear. I like to think of them as the Mr Price Sport of Europe. I picked up an 800FP down jacket for R550 (on sale, otherwise its listed at R799). It kept me warm and toasty at 4:30 in the morning on the escarpment this weekend (probably about 5 degrees outside, maybe lower, and winds upwards of 20km/h at times) with only a light fleece and waterproof shell to help it along. Here's a pic of me in it (that's with no beanie, just the hood):
They claim their gear is developed on Mont Blanc, and each piece has a bunch of info regarding its specs and numerous reviews. Apparently the brand is well used in Europe as well as India, and I have seen a number of people claiming in the reviews they've used some of the kit up in the Himalayas. The sheer volume they must be selling as a result of these markets is probably how they keep their price down.
Think we're getting mainly the lower spec stuff at the moment, but still pretty decent, especially for those non-life-or-death items (such as pants, hats, etc), or if your seriously on a budget. There's a whole section for kids too. I can't comment on the long-term durability, but they offer a 2 year warranty on most of their kit.
Link: www.decathlon-sports.co.za/ Navigation is a bit confusing - hit menu at the top, select all sports and scroll down to hiking.
Link direct to the jacket: www.decathlon-sports.co.za/p/8397297_men-s-grey-trekking-full-down-jacket.html#/3-200-s
[Edit]
I only saw Intrepid's request now about the requirement to be a familiar contributor to the site. I only just meet the criteria and as such would like to state that I am 1) In no way affiliated with the brand and 2) am not an experienced 'berg hiker by any means.

I saw this Garmin GPS on OLX. I think it is quite a good deal, thus I post it here...
I have the Oregon 550 and can testify it works really good, especially because it uses AA batteries. With the colour screen you can see the contour lines clearly.
