A reminder to all members that we allow threads/posts such as these on the basis that those posting have absolutely no affiliation or connection to the brand names or company concerned. Nor should those posting stand to gain anything from it in any way, and the motive shouldn't be anything other than to share information with fellow hikers and climbers in an unbiased way. Anything to the contrary is viewed as advertising or promotional content which should not be posted without prior arrangement.

If you are affiliated or linked in any way with the gear, brand names or companies you are writing about, in any context on this forum, please contact me first and an agreement can then be set up depending on the nature of the proposed content. As with any content on this site, we reserve the right to edit or delete the content as we see fit.

Thanks everyone for your co-operation.

I see take-a-lot has a special on the Suunto Ambit 3 for R3999. I think its a very good price. But there only seems to be 18 left so you better hurry...

Just seen this ad for a Garmin Dakota 20 on Gumtree (I do not know the seller and you are responsible for doing your own verification/research if you decide to pursue it):

Came across this ad on Gumtree, not mine and same caveat as Andrew's above:

Surely a random Gumtree advert doesn't classify as a "SALE"? :)

True Adrian, but it didn't seem appropriate to post in the 'used gear' thread because I'm not the seller, and the other option of starting a new thread seemed a bit unnecessary.

May also be a bit harsh to call it a 'random gumtree ad' since both GPS's are specifically made for hiking, appear to be in good working order and are significantly cheaper than you would pay today for a similar new unit. In my view a 'random gumtree ad' would be a link to some arb +10degC sleeping bag or a 10kg 'hiking' tent.

Well I think the thread generally refers to sale items at shops. Otherwise we could all just post literally thousands of adverts for all manner of items that apply to hiking.

If someone wanted to view ads similar to that you'd use a site like Ananzi Ads anyway which finds related adverts across plenty of websites. Eg: www.ananzi.co.za/south-africa/garmin-gps.html

I think we can allow some flexibility (within reason) to the definition of Sale Warning and I think those posts are quite relevant.
I believe that andrew r and Papa Dragon are acting in good faith and sharing what they feel might be a good deal with other hikers.
As andrew r has mentioned it is not necessary to start a new thread or add his post to another thread.

I also don't realistically see VE members posting "thousands of adverts" so we can rest easy there.
