We only saw the snow at Vergelegen from a distance, at least 10 to 20 km. It could have been hail, but at the time we thought it more likely that it was snow due to the uniform deposit thickness, whereas we expected hail would have been more varying in thickness and would concentrate more in low points.

Although there are still some lingering clouds, todays Terra satellite overpass is able to give us a good overview of the scale of the snowfall. Virtually all elevations above 2500m seem to covered.

Here is the Google Earth overlay with snow shown in dark red:

Some pics of our adventure in the cathedral peak area.
Attempted Organ pipes Pass on Saturday but had to abandon due to heavy snow/sleet.
Moved across to Tseketseke on Sunday. The split photo of the pass shows the difference between Sunday and Monday snow levels. Amazing how much melted in a day.The top was Monday Morning at 8h30am.
The bottom was Sunday 1pm

Looking at Windguru's map, it seems the Kalahari High has decided to do its thing. So I'm guessing we won't be getting any proper snow in the next few weeks. From a pleasant hiking weather point of view :) , but from a snow point of view :(
