Had an awesome weekend!
Due to sircumstances I couldn't leave on Thursday as planned, so I changed my route a bit. Went up Fangs, hiked across to Mweni / Rockeries valley & down Rockeries on Sunday morning.
The views were mind blowing & very tiring! Some spots knee deep.
Will load some photos in the "snow watch' soon.

So who is making it a long weekend next weekend and where are you planning to hike?
I am still looking at a few options whatching the weather and the amount of snow and ice that could be in the passes.

Take nothing but litter, leave nothing but a cleaner Drakensberg.

We were planning on going up Ships Prow and down Apes Pass, but we have already started considering easier alternatives cause of the amount of snow! Remains to be seen how much of it melts during the week.

Up the Bell Traverse and down Tseketseke Pass, but also depend on the amount of snow left.

Looks like more wet weather is on its way for the weekend, with the chance of more snow. We are also considering going up Ntonjelana Pass, down Mlambonja and back to the Mnweni at Contour Path level. We are figuring we may as well make use of the smugglers trail blazing a path up the pass for us, added to the fact the pass follows ridges and not a gully.
I can't believe it - 4 weeks ago I was on a mountaineering trip on Vancouver Island, Canada, where it was supposed to be summer. The snow was still up to 3m thick there (compacted!), and trudging through the snow our progress was too slow to walk to the intended peaks, climb them and walk out in time. Now, once again, snow is hampering my plans!
