Mmm, it might still be Boerkie, since Injisuthi is known to do that kind of thing, so don't tell anyone
It is quite evident that the cave is still being used since we cleaned some litter out of it, and cleared away a camp-fire and wood. Anyone heading out there, please check with the office what the current status is.

Take nothing but litter, leave nothing but a cleaner Drakensberg.

Bwa ha ha ha :woohoo:

Don't worry I know you've left the cave in a better state than it was on your arrival. Your are forgiven.

It really sucks that caves are closed or protected but the smugglers still use them with absolutely no respect, whereas the hikers that would cause minimum impact are forbidden.

I suspect the cave is kept under the radar because of safety rather than conservation. I definitely would stay away from it outside of the dry months because of its close proximity to the river. It got flooded quite badly apparently in 1976.

Yes it is sad what the smugglers do, but some hikers are definitely not any better!

Hey Intrepid,

Nice to have met you, sorry I couldn't stay and chat.

Our group of 5 had planned to head up Leslie's, summit Mafadi and down Bannerman's to complete the long weekend.

We left Njesuthi on Saturday morning and arrived at the bottom of Leslie's at 1pm cold and wet, We decided along with two other groups to camp that night at the bottom of the pass.

Sunday morning we headed up the pass, the going was slow in the snow and about mid-thigh deep in the final gully. We stayed up against the rocks on the left to avoid the deep sections in the middle. It meant a few scrambles over the rocks but overall not too bad.

We gave up on the idea of trying to get to Mafadi and just spent the night at the top of the pass, returning back down to Marble bath cave on Monday.

Regards
Graeme

I thought of all of you guys this weekend, wishing I was up there....

However, family and my wife's old man more important right now... :(

I'll be back, when I get a new pair of boots. My Merrell's broke in 2 when I wore them the other day to work... I am heartbroken! How can a plastic/rubber upper leave me in the lurch like that! @Merrell, don't worry, I had almost 8yrs of wear. I would buy another pair if you still made them...

I have heard of a lot of hikers doing bum sliding down the snowed up passes but no one ever uses their foam mattresses for this. I'm sure it will be easier and not as cold, plus you can remove your pack and sit it behind you on your mattress sled. This can be fun, I'm sure but keep the speed under control :woohoo:

I will even go as far as pulling my pack on a mattress sled behind in me in these conditions on the flat sections.
