there is also a option to leave your super bike at witsieshoek and both go up on the XT 600 which will be more pleasant to drive on that road.
we have often left cars there before, as long as you run it past reception.

We are planning to go up the chain ladders the weekend of the 22nd September. I just have some questions and any feedback would be appreciated.

What will the weather most likely look like? I know it hard to tell but what can be expected?
What is the cost lately to park at sentinal and leave your car there for a night or two? Is this the only cost?

Thanks

I'm also planning to be there for that long weekend

On a similar note, how long is a piece of string

Actually, let me rephrase that - I'll be up there so the weather will be perfect B)

But jokes aside, its early spring, so mist, rain, snow, hail, thunderstorms, strong winds etc are all real possibilities. Be prepared for anything and watch the weather forecast before you go ;)

The road is not great for cars, but Witsieshoek offer a drop off and pick up for R80 per person for a round trip.
Not sure about the entry fee but you can contact Witsieshoek for more information on +27 58 713 6361/2 or +27 73 228 7391.

I am going up the weekend before so will post any updates/news when I get back.

As promised, updated info as of the 14/15 September:

1. The road from Witsieshoek to Sentinel Car Park: I wouldn't take a car. Clearance is the main issue here and the road is pretty rough. Witsieshoek offer a shuttle service at R80 return. They took us in a Toyota Condor and even that took a few bumps underneath.

2. Fees: There is a "toll gate" which charges R20. The fee for hiking (payable at Sentinel car park) is R40 per day (not per night oddly) so a one night hike is R80. If you choose to stay over in the hut at the car park it is R100 night. Witsieshoek offer informal camping for hikers (on the lawn in front of the conference centre) looking to get an early start at R50 per person and make a bathroom available to you.

Hope this helps.

Thanx for the useful info regarding the service from Witsieshoek. I went up with a bike two up in August but would not want to do it with an Opel Calibra with 18" low profiles.I am planning another visit on the moment and this help.
