The road to sentinel car park: a grader was being used this morning to clear the snow, should be open by now or at least by tomorrow.

I also went to Garden Castle, I see Lee beat me to it with the pics :P

On Saturday morning we set off for Sleeping Beauty Cave where we planned to spend the night. Had to trudge through shin deep snow for a fair section of the hike, the final 1km took us about 3.5hrs!!

Thanks everyone again for all the updates. I'm really impressed how long the snow is persisting even in the lower valleys!

We shot up for a quick jaunt to catch the snow. Headed up Beacon Buttress Gully on Saturday overnighted on top and down the chains on Sun. We were the first car up to the car park and had to ram through some of the bigger snow drifts. We were also surprised that it didn't appear anyone had broken trail yet.

The snow is melting fast but there was still a fair amount on the south facing and shady sections of the path and on top. The Gully was relatively easy. Icy in some sections, an axe was handy and hard going where we fell through the crust up to our bellies. It was surprising how few people made it up on Saturday, but it was turning into a veritable circus on Sunday after the road to the car park was graded clear.

Awesome images Jon, really thick snow. If it took that long in the lower valleys, the passes are going to be interesting.

Why thank you Mr Beath, but not quite as awesome as the images in your book :P

I forgot to mention, there was a dude snowboarding next the car park at the Garden Castle office yesterday!
