In a previous post it was mentioned that the cyan colour is the snow; if so why is it cyan out to sea which are obviously clouds. Is it related to temperature or relectivity, rather than "snow" vs "cloud"?

You will not find any snow around Notties - it had already melted yesterday. You could try going up to Highmoor in Kamberg (50km past Notties) - should still be snow in gullies and South facing slopes. I am not sure about the situation in Underberg although I'm sure there will still be snow in Garden Castle as it was really thick there.lee wrote: hi guys going up to the berg tomorrow wat would be my best bet for snow underberg or nottingham road?cheers Lee.

Go to the bottom of the VE page, the grey block, and click on: Maloti-Drakensberg Satellite Images.
When the page loads click on the image appearing RED in colour. It will give you a better read on what is snow.

However, ice in high-altitude clouds may appear on these MODIS images, so a ratio of band 4 and 6 can be used to obtain a 'true' snow image, eliminating the reflectance of ice in clouds. Interestingly, there is a malfunction of the band 6 sensors on the Aqua satellite, which is why the 'red' 3-6-7 band composite is only available for MODIS on the Terra satellite.
