I took a drive to Nottingham Rd early this morning, the snow was coming down pretty hard!

I took this clip when we first arrived at the garage near the turnoff

Hi All

The sky's cleared a bit as I was leaving Wagendrift. Beaut sight of Giants and slightly north. Snow full up. Lower berg covered. Squalls still coming through.

Enjoy if you are heading out

Coincidentally - it was also the Women's Day long weekend last year which had the heaviest snowfall I believe. The mountains were swarming with VE members

Van Reenen's Pass (N3) seems to be closed currently, though exact reports are differing. In any case, trucks are backed up at Tugela Toll Plaza at the bottom and are not allowed to continue. The R617 running through Underberg and Swartberg is also closed.

Snowfall has been reported in Joburg too.

And we have not seen the end of the weather yet.

Update from Witsieshoek Resort via their Facebook page :

Witsieshoek is covered in a thick blanket of snow, and the road is currently closed. We've started the process of getting the road cleared because the Lodge is fully booked for the week-end and we are going to do everything we can to make it safe for guests to get in and out. The landline phones are not working either, so please use the cell phone 073-228-7391. Road access status will be updated later in the morning.

The N3 between Harrismith & Van Reenen's is definitely closed. We were also getting different answers on the actual pass
