Although its still a few days away and the forecast may change, snow-forecast.com is suggesting totals of 25-50cm of snow for much of the escarpment over the weekend!

Nice images and enough snow to be good for image props, but to much to make it an ordeal to walk through. Wish i was there!

We are going up to Thendele (Amphitheatre) for our annual 'Christmas in July' bash - it would be great to have some snow this weekend. I have experienced snow on the ground in this area when I did Devils Tooth gully in August last year. Here's holding thumbs!!

And temps at Mont Aux Source don't climb above 5 degs C up to Wed next week and beyond so the snow is going to stick around for 10 days at least.

Hi Videsh and welcome to this forum.

I am not aware of any nearby currently. Perhaps by tomorrow morning you might have some in the Underberg and Kokstad areas. It all depends on how much snow the current weather pattern produces. Difficult to predict exactly. It could even extends as far as Nottingham Road.

This was posted on the SA Weather Bureau site yesterday:

The South African Weather Service has been closely monitoring the development of two distinct weather systems during the past few days. The combined effect of a well-defined, intense cut-off low pressure system (located in the mid to upper regions of the atmosphere) together with the movement of a cold frontal system across South Africa, are expected to cause extreme weather conditions over most parts of the country from today, Friday 13th July 2012 onwards, persisting during this weekend.

The areas which will be the hardest hit are the Eastern Cape, parts of the Western Cape, the southern parts of the Northern Cape as well as the southern Free State.

There have already been confirmed reports of snowfall on the Tsitsikamma and Outeniqua Mountains in the Western Cape early this morning, Friday 13th July.

...

Snowfalls, heavy in places, are expected over the central and eastern high ground of the Western Cape, the high ground of the Eastern Cape, Lesotho and the southern Drakensberg mountains, persisting until Sunday morning.

Take nothing but litter, leave nothing but a cleaner Drakensberg.

There's nothing below 2500m in the Southern Berg, there were extremely strong winds last night which I assume didn't help any further snowfall. The winds forced myself & jonwells0802, who happened to be camping next to me, to ditch our tents during the night

Saturday

Sunday (today)

@smurfatefrog, where did you and your family take shelter from the wind?
I don't think that low pressure hit the Berg like it did EC and WC.
