Snow Watch 2012

The first pic is about 2950masl on the south side of Thaba Ngwangwe, and the second one is the view from the summit of Thaba Ngwangwe (at Bushman's Nek). The hike is described in detail on this thread .

The hike took us 13 hours with basically empty backpacks (basically only a bit of food, water, raincoats, a map, first aid kit, headlamps and space blanket), the heaviest pack in the group was probably 10kg with water, it was tough going.

If you are snow hunting, the easiest should be to head to Garden Castle and either go up Mashai Pass or Bollard Pass, there should still be snow in those gullies. There was lots of snow on Mzimude Pass (we couldn't clearly see further north than Mzimude Peak due to the burning in the area causing the air to be fairly smokey), but that is a fair distance from the nearest car park.

Hi All

On may up to Estcourt this morning it seems as though the high berg south of Giants got a bit more snow over the weekend. When I left of Friday I did not notice snow south of Giants.

Looks like more on the way

Hi Jonwells
Looks like snow will fall quite far below escarpment too. Looks like a cracker of a cold front.
Thanks

Woohoo! Just in time for the long weekend and our planned 4-day hike. :woohoo: The forecast is for clear weather over the weekend which would be perfect after a huge dump of snow...

Hi All

Light snow around mountains close to Wagendrift dam just outside Escourt. First time in six years that I have seen snow there.

Looks like a great weekend of hiking for those heading out
