At 8:30 this morning I could see a bit on the lower slopes around Giants.
Couldn't see anything major across the escarpment. Bear in mind I was looking from Hilton which is about 80km away.

Basically I don't think there are many falls to get excited about.

Could see light dustings in the Dargle area.

Today's latest Modis satellite image showing the remaining snow coloured blue:

A very randomly spread fall of snow it seems!

I drove up to Hilton this morning, no snow in sight around 10AM. Looks like this one has melted really quickly.

Thanks Smurf, that was indeed rather unexpected!

That makes it No.5 for the year, last year this time there had been 10 snowfalls by this stage, so 2014 has some catching up to do!

The sat image from today shows a very faint dusting of snow literally only on the high ranges in the Afriski area, so it was a fairly localised event.

Take nothing but litter, leave nothing but a cleaner Drakensberg.

The snow forecasts for this weekend's cold front have been changing wildly from one day to the next, but there should hopefully be a bit more certainty going forward as the front makes landfall in the Cape today.

Here is the current 3 day snow forecast, with most of the snow predicted for Sunday and into early Monday. At this stage it seems most snow will be confined to areas above + - 2500m in the South and above 3000m in the North

It seems that we are getting rather more isolated snowfalls than scattered snowfalls of late. The 30th June image also indicates very isolated and light snowfalls west of Black Mnt Pass (Kotisephola) and on Makoaneng (highest summit of the central Range - just over 3400m). In fact, some snowfalls might be missed altogether, if not looked for carefully. There was another very light and isolated snowfall just a few days earlier during the night of 26th to 27th June....this time restricted almost entirely to Makoaneng in Lesotho, but with some falls along the E. Cape Drakensberg, just south of Lesotho.
