I hear it is snowing in Underberg and Kokstad right now. Icy up in Hilton at the moment, actually quite happy to not be in the Berg right now...

You mean snow on the fairway but little on the peaks? Maybe it slipped off.

Would be typical for it to bucket down - whenever I'm committed to something away from the Berg it snows haha

Usually the Maloti-Drakensberg Satellite Images link could tell us, but it has been down for quite some time. Anyone know what the problem is ?

I phoned Underberg yesterday and news was that it did not look like it had snowed ....but not sure if here might not have been a bit on the higher peaks in the southern Berg??

Having just spent a full week at Garden Castle (well, also Cobham and Bushman's Nek - long story, report coming soon) - I can confirm that there was no snow this last week. Looked like it might snow tonight, but I am now back at home.

Hi, heading to Injisuthi this weekend. Just a little hike to Lower Injisuthi cave. Should I be worried? Never had a hike in cold conditions, not that I hike that much. Any advice?

We were on the Amphi over the weekend. No snow, but when we came down on Sunday it was quite misty and cold. I dont think it was to cold. My first ascent sleeping bag is rated at 5 degrees and I didnt sleep cold.

One big problem we had was water. There was no flowing water on the berg. We did find a pool of water with a few dead frogs in :S . We were a group of 24 people and needed water to drink and for food. We added water purifying tablets and boiled the water. Luckely we didnt get sick.

So just before you hike ask around if there is water...

Enjoy!

Hi Deszn

You should be fine. Snow only predicted on the Highberg for Thursday night and Friday morning .Freezing level just below 3000m for Thursday night. Looks like weather is awesome for a weekend hike in the berg. Nice moderate temperatures that are cool on Saturday and warming up on Sunday a little. Perfect for walking and you won't feel too hot. Don't think you have too much to worry about. Visibility should be great too after the front has passed.
Regards
Selous
