Snow Watch 2014
Oh so that was you guys. AndrewP and I saw you on our way out, just before the storm hit.GerritHuman wrote: We were on the Amphi over the weekend. No snow, but when we came down on Sunday it was quite misty and cold. I dont think it was to cold. My first ascent sleeping bag is rated at 5 degrees and I didnt sleep cold.
One big problem we had was water. There was no flowing water on the berg. We did find a pool of water with a few dead frogs in. We were a group of 24 people and needed water to drink and for food. We added water purifying tablets and boiled the water. Luckely we didnt get sick.
We drank water from pools with dead frogs for 5 days. We didnt have any pills and couldn't keep up with boiling, so we just lived with the risk. So far so good, hope we survive.
Take nothing but litter, leave nothing but a cleaner Drakensberg.

The SANParks forum has had a scheme for a few years now, forumites tie yellow ribbons to the driver side wing mirror (and other places like rear-view mirror). We could do something similar on our backpacks? Another idea could be to sell branded gear as a fundraiser?GerritHuman wrote: We should all get "Vertical Endeavour" shirts with our names on
, I always wonder when I pass someone on the berg if I've met them on this forum.

People could always introduce themselves in the mountains by their VE names rather than their actual names

Wish we could get those daily satellite images back on the site so we get a better idea of snowfall extent

Today is no exception...
There may be some snow directly over the SA/Lesotho border in places(under the clouds), but it certainly didn't extend into Lesotho, or it has already melted. Both Afriski and Tiffindell webcams this morning showed that no snow had fallen, so Sani Pass is the only region we know of for now.

Snow is forecast for most of the Drakensberg tonight, but will most likely be restricted to areas above 2700m. Between 5 and 15cm is currently predicted:
