Current status at Cobham - Masubasuba Pass is heavily snowed up, looks basically impassable. Amakehla also looks dangerous. Minaret Pass is passable, but is in such bad shape that I would suggest that it should not be used in general going forward. Both Pitsaneng Passes are too snowed up to be safe, the Stones Passes are fine and Sandleni Pass is fine, although tricky as the river crossings on the pass are often iced up. South slopes of South Hodgesons is covered in deep snow, but the north facing sides of the ridges look entirely clear of snow.

The full story of what happened as AndrewP and Ghaz went to Cobham for the first time, with a Hobbit that had been there many times before, will follow soon...

I just read a short article stating that the snow end of July was the most snow Lesotho had in 20 years.

Look at the satellite photo taken 27 July 2016:

Currently in Bergville for work - lots of snow on Mafadi, Yodelers Ridge and Cleft, both north and south slopes. This is definitely the year for snow chasers!

More snow has fallen between 19-20 August on higher peaks in central Lesotho and Drakensberg - these events can be tracked via the satellite images (some of the fresh snow is visible despite considerable cloud cover on the morning image of 20 August.

Yesterdays satellite image showing snow in red. Most of the snow in the yellow circle is fresh snow that fell 19-20 August:

Has anyone been to the Northern Berg/Mnweni Area recently and can comment on the amount of snow around? Specifically Ifidi, Mbundini and Fangs Passes?

Here is yesterday's satellite overlay showing what snow is remaining from the large drop of snow that occurred over a month ago. Snow is shown in red. Note that shaded pass gullies may still have snow patches in them that would be too small in size to be visible in the image:

I'm surprised there's that much left. Myself and Hobbit will be doing some night hiking this weekend - so hopefully this hot weather will get rid of enough that we don't have to wade through snow in the dark. Should be fun watching the sunrise from Mafadi.
