Indeed Diverian, a lot of forecasts are pointing to well over a metre of snow falling on the peaks from Sunday, as well as heavy snow into the midlands. Very often the forecast totals can drop substantially as the event draws nearer, but it certainly seems that something big may be on the way!

With the approaching cold front/cut-off low only a few days away now, models are still consistently forecasting extremely heavy snow for large parts of the Drakensberg, as well as heavy snow for some areas in the KZN midlands, as well as the interior of the Eastern Cape. Very heavy rains are also forecast for the coastal regions.
Here is the snow-forecast.com total snow accumulation forecast as it currently stands:
At the moment, the heaviest snowfalls are forecast for the Mafadi area. Mountain-Forecast.com is currently suggesting a snow total of 2.3 metres for Mafadi peak! So this could certainly turn into a very significant weather event!

Hi, I'm new to this forum and the Drakensberg- you guys are all watching the snow carefully for the immediate wekend correct? I can't expect that this snow will remain (be depended on as a water source) for mid august?
Thanks

This weekend is looking good for an impromptu snow hike! Snowing all through tomorrow and then clear (but bitterly cold). Snow looks heavy enough to last through to Saturday?

Just made it down Leslie's pass on Saturday the 23rd in the early evening, set up camp at the bottom of the pass camp site. Had dinner and chat and hit the sack, we awoke to this!!
made the trip back to camp rather interesting!!
