Interesting idea, I might be able to wangle it (though I don't really know the area). Many thanks for the good wishes, much appreciatedghaznavid wrote:

Navigation up the Chain Ladders is very tricky - the trail is visible from over 1km away and there is no other trail! If you get lost there are only about 800 000 other people around to show you the way, assuming it isn't a long weekend.
But seriously - the chain ladders route is very easy to navigate, you can't get lost. Finding Crows Nest Cave is easy (if you know where to look - I can send you photos), and if you don't find it, there's always the hut on top as a backup plan.
The route overall is quite short, so you would have time to check out the nearby views and peaks - Tugela Falls will be dry at this time of the year though. You also have the option of returning via Bacon Buttress Gully - the peak just above the gully is well worth a visit. You won't find a better view over the area that close to the chain ladders - and the cliffs of Sentinel don't hurt the view either.

(looked like hikers and not idiots fooling about as one often gets around that area, nevertheless it was quite impressive to see).
Wasn't you Joshilewis by any chance?

I personally wouldn't go down Corner Pass, the top and bottom scramble might be a bit hairy to go down, going up is bad enough! Otherwise the rest of the pass is easy.
I highly recommend Judge Pass as a nearby alternative - good trail the entire way, its a very scenic pass.
