Thanks for the info guys,
Planning on taking extra water up, pack already at 18kg's so another 2kg's wouldn't make too much of a difference
We found a reasonable amount of water close to the top of Fangs pass a few months ago, see there is a little bit of rain forecasted for tonight and tomorrow so hopefully there will be some water available. Definitely taking water purification drops and Steripen along to sanitise water. Will report back nex weekend, should be an interesting hike

Hello all,
Anyone done Greys Pass recently?. I am taking a group up this weekend and was wondering what the water situation is like at KBC and the Mwhalzini stream as one crosses it coming down from Hlatikulu neck.

Feedback on the water situation at Mnweni as at 30 Aug 2015. We went up Ifidi on Friday with enough water for two days (my traps still hurts from all that extra weight!!!), got to the top just before sunset and saw that there was plenty water in the stream 400m from the top of the pass. As we were ascending our last waterspot was at 2200m, but then between 2700m and 2800m there were a couple of small drips with even a huge chunk of solid ice just before the top of the pass. The wind was pumping down the pass, definitely cold enough for that slab of ice to stay there for a while.
For day 2 we stayed close to the escarpment and found water in all the bigger rivers on either side of all the ridges. That would mean walking down to fetch it of course, else carry extra and stay high. As we got to the start of the Mnweni cutback we ascended higher and from there on till we got to the basin of the Orange river there was no water, and it was seriously hot. We ran out of water just as we got to the Orange river. Filled up with really dodgy water here (dirty and heavily used by cattle etc.) so we used Salveo drops and boiled the water at Ledgers Saturday evening. On the flat area between Ledgers cave and Mnweni pass we found two stagnant pools with decent water quality and again filled up fro the trek down the pass on Sunday morning.
Lots of water all along the way till you get back to the MCC.
In summary, no water shortage on top, though you might have to loose some altitude to get it.

Hi
Grey's Pass water situation as of 23 August:
Ribbon Falls: Flowing
Breakfast Stream: Flowing
Turret Stream: Flowing
Mhlwazini Stream @ KBC path crossing: DRY
KBC is almost dry. 10 days ago we found two small pools in the river bed. These appear not to be flowing but are actually fed by underground water flow. We were able to fill up no problem.
Nkosazana Stream: Flowing
Hope this helps.

Spent the last 4 days in Mzimkhulu wilderness area.
Eland pools very low and many small tributarys are not flowing or dry.
All round water levels low.

As of the 24th-27th September weekend:
Centenary Hut water source is just a trickle.
A few trickles in Corner Pass around the scrambles.
River behind Judge/Corner Pass is flowing but low.
River below Injisuthi Summit Cave is a series of slowly flowing pools.
Rivers around the Injisuthi Buttresses and behind Leslie's Pass seemed to be flowing well from above.
There is water at the crossing point halfway down Leslie's Pass (before contouring out to the ridge)
Marble Baths stream had good water volume all the way down from the Leslie's Pass ridge.
