15/11/2015, Good flow at Breakfast stream. Dry at BMC campsite, bit of seepage further up, but not really usable.
Good flow at Little Tugela, about 500m south of BMC.
From Sterkhorn looks like decent water first stream to the north of BMC.
Steady drizzle all of last night at BMC, getting harder at times.
Little Tugela and Breakfast Stream were noticably fuller today than yesterday, which is encouraging, but conditions are still very dry.

Gosh! What a shocking pic of Tarn at Tarn cave! Hopefully this past weekends rain extended to most of the berg. Off to Mweni this weekend- hope we encounter enough water on our hike. Will report back next week!

Hi guys im posting here because i am planning to do a northern berg traverse in late december of this year. I am getting a bit nervous about the water situation especially after hearing from a friend that the tugela is not flowing at all on the top. My question is then if it's sill safe enough to do the traverse and expect to find enough water for daily consumption? Guessing i might have to take purification tablets and make use of standing water

The water situation at Mnweni seems fine, although we stuck to the lower slopes and slept in Jubilee Cave. The river is flowing well, but it is very low. little streams/ tributaries are plentiful and dagga fields are looking healthy B)

Lets test my memory on every river we crossed last week:
River by Thamathu Cave was dry, but you might be able to get a bit off with a plastic packet if you are patient (i.e. not entirely bone dry about 5m above the cave)
Top of Thamathu Pass is flowing, and is probably only 20% animal waste
Base of Isicutula Pass is flowing adequately
Leqooa River is bone dry
River between Mlambonja and Mashai is flowing, slowly
River behind Rhino is basically dry, I seem to recall stagnant pools - but not 100% sure
River north of Verkyker is flowing and covered in animals
Pitsaneng is bone dry 5km inland (aside from the odd stagnant pool)
Sani river is bone dry
Phinong river is lightly flowing by the gap around the bridge
Sehonghong river looked dry, but we crossed it in the dark
Tsolo river is flowing nicely
Mokhotlong river is dry, but there are stagnant pools
Long Wall south slope has some small flows.
Jarateng river is flowing from about 1km down from source
Langalibalele is flowing at its junction with the stream coming down from Bannerman Cave
Stream behind Gypaetus Point is bone dry
River south of Mafadi is as strong as ever
River between Champagne and Mafadi is flowing, but rather slowly and had lots of animals
River below Didima Cave must have been flowing, otherwise I am wondering where my water came from  but jokes aside, apparently you have to drop about 100m
River behind Windsor Castle is flowing, but is the lowest I have ever seen it
Cleft/Ndumeni valley is completely dry (as usual), but water was visible 2km downstream if you are desperate
Didn't go near water in the Tseke valley
The river behind Twins is flowing well, but plenty of livestock along the way
We'll assume the dog I saw in the Nguza river was just having a drink, but at least the river was flowing well
Senqu is dry, baring some stagnant pools
Mbundini is flowing if you are willing to drop down a bit
The Kubedu is flowing. Curiously there are massive marshes near it, despite its relatively dry state
Tugela is bone dry
Eland River Falls isn't even a slightly darker rock, i.e. properly bone dry

Enjoy your northern traverse, I am gearing up for a GT with Hobbit (if successful, he will be the youngest person to complete a GT, breaking the record by about 4 months). With the dry rivers, we will probably carry a full backup litre of water - so this will be tough!
