To answer Viking's question about the Fangs Rockeries loop right now:
- The major rivers in the Mnweni area on the SA side of the border are flowing well enough up to heights of about 2300m. In the Fangs valley, the water is still flowing strongly at the junction with the Mbundini Pass river, and the pool there is still good for a swim. In Rockeries Pass, you can still get good flowing water in that side stream about half way up the pass
- in Lesotho, the rivers are much drier. Occasional pools with trickles in between at best, and in the sandier patches of the river bed, it will be bone dry.
There is no water at the top of Fangs Pass. But, if you contour around the ridge heading towards the Mnweni Cutback, you will see pools and water in the river below you.
In the Senqu river: if you cut a direct line between the top of Mnweni and Rockeries Passes, there is no water. But, if you go about 200m downstream, you will find a rocky section with some pools. Or, if you go about 200m upstream into the little "kloof", there are a few pools there as well. This area has a lot of sheep and cows right now.

Just came back from a traverse and just want to echo the fact that it is very dry in lesotho with minimal water available in standing pools. first flowing water on the top found in the valley right behind mlambonja pass (walking south from ampitheatre)

Hi All
Planning short trip with kids in Cathedral area, one overnight. Can someone give me a recent update on the state of the streams on the little berg? Ribbon Falls Cave, etc?

Hi Halewyn,
We were in the Cathedral area doing the Bell Traverse 2 weeks ago. Although only a small trickle, the stream at the waterfall above Sherman's Cave was flowing. I'm not sure about the stream at Ribbon Falls Cave but usually that one flows stronger than Sherman's and should be ok.
