Something to check before going:

Witsieshoek is covered in a thick blanket of snow, and the road is currently closed. We've started the process of getting the road cleared because the Lodge is fully booked for the week-end and we are going to do everything we can to make it safe for guests to get in and out. The landline phones are not working either, so please use the cell phone 073-228-7391. Road access status will be updated later in the morning.

Will be thinking of all you brave soldiers this weekend as I enjoy warm and sunny weather in Europe B)

Will be in the Berg the weekend after though to enjoy what is left of it.

I have to say that I'm somewhat cured of the need for heavy snow since I've had several mountain trips messed up because snow conditions were too thick. Still nice to see though.

Enjoy it guys!

Take nothing but litter, leave nothing but a cleaner Drakensberg.

Thanks Aux. I am keen to join your group if that's okay?

If it's good, please let me know the details of travel etc.

PS.Do you plan to carry tents also?

Cheers

Ok, I was adamant that I must study or work on Thursday, but I have succumbed to Dragon and will be doing some minor day mission with snow as the main goal on Thursday...

My goodness the wind looks ugly for Saturday!

Somewhere beneath this patch of black is a map of South Africa!

For those going to the berg this weekend...I am jealous.

Just so you know, wind is very strong on Saturday (as in previous report): between 90 and 110km/h on top.

We are heading up Gypaetus Pass tomorrow. If we get to the top of the pass tomorrow, we will make an attempt to the Mafadi ridge on Sunday and finish the hike off on monday, if we don't succeed on the pass tomorrow we will head up it on Sunday...

We are doing the Bell Traverse. Heading up to Tseketseke Hut for the first night, then up Tsekeseke Pass on Sunday morning, and north to Twins Annexe Cave. Bell Traverse on the third day - we are hoping for a clear day, especially on Monday. This is my third attempt at the BT so am holding thumbs - all the previous attempts have had to be aborted due to bad weather!

I'm heading up to Haenertsberg in Limpopo to organise the SA Orienteering Championships. We've been scouting and planning courses through the forests for the last few weeks so hopefully the races are thoroughly enjoyed by all!
