The upcoming hikes thread
We have a small boy now, 14 months old, this little one has already been in the Berg but obviously only short day hikes. This is unlikely to change in the near future, when they are this little (cannot speak for themselves) it is indeed dangerous to take them on long and challenging hikes as they might get ill without one really knowing.
So I guess it'll be day hikes for me. I'm gonna do some challenging one day hikes (solo), and as always
The following are on the cards:
1) Mt Amery via Beacon Buttress Gully from the Sentinel Car Park. Have been wanting to do this peak since a discussion on it last year on this forum. Should be a challenging day hike although definitely not epic.
2) Goldengate 4 peaks challenge. Get Ribbokpeak (quite a thriller solo wise...), Generaalskop, Lieutenant General and Pretender peak all in one day.
3) I have been dared to do the GG Ribbok trail in one day. This one will be epic....I have done most sections of this trial as part of explorations, formal or informal in the park. But I haven't done this all at once. I still think the light and fast approach should get this one done in time (well....this comment is what started the dare, the locals believe I won't make it...). Well, I know the last third of the hike like the back of my hand so I guess I can finish in the dark if needs be...
4) With the family including the little one, we'll definitely be heading into the Injisuthi valleys, our favorite Berg playground.
As the season progresses hopefully some more plans can be added.

've been to the base of Apes Pass on the contour path, looks...well....challenging.
Maybe Intrepid or Mnt Tiska has done this?

I do have a few trips in the pipeline this winter but knowing how trips can change, I'll post more when they actually start happening

. With regards to winter clothing/ kit you do need very specific items to ensure safety and it's best to treat the Berg as you would a high altitude trekking environment. If you need a kit list for reference, I have a couple that work well for me.
Cheers

No, not me, though I always regret not having tried new passes instead of going up the well known ones dozens of times. One positive aspect of all the smuggling traffic is that there is far more incentive to try out the obscure routes now. Though to be fair on myself, when I first went up Rockeries, we had to walk from the police post (road impassable beyond) and the path up Rockeries was not even continuous.

Let me know when you are going... Trying to put in the km's this year. Doing a GT as soon as winter breaks (August - September).
Done a bunch of your "Team Khulu Bagger" goals over the years, all in dead winter, all staying up there, would be keen to push a couple that I'm familiar with.

If others agree can this be made a sticky?
I'm sure many of you are heading out this weekend (I'm not though
PS: I said a few days ahead of time so Ghaz doesn't post a huge list only for 90% of them to be cancelled
