I've had a look at the trails, I'd be keen on the Primitive trail, sleeping out under the stars. 3 & 4 night options (R2300 / R2800). It runs from mid-Feb to mid-Nov. Not sure when I could do this though, I'd like to say earlier but perhaps only next Apr/Mayjoshilewis wrote:

What little missions can I make around there? Thinking I'll at least go up to the top of the ridge to below Little Rhino

Im off to the Berg on Thursday evening, we're a group of two doing the tripple summit traverse of Inner Tower and one of the Amphitheatre Frontal routes (Liebenberg's Route). Hoping for stable weather and no ice and snow! On the other hand, wishing ST a successful photo shoot further South

The ridge above Pillar Cave is also pretty cool, very scenic and you can walk a fair distance in either direction.

I've also looked at going past Sleeping Beauty towards Hidden valley and then cutting across, it doesn't look like many ups & downs at all, not sure if my friends would be too keen for some off the beaten track walking though

Its not as easy as you think though. The standard walk into the Hidden Valley is not short (and is very much a case of walking in the wrong direction for a long time), but is basically flat and very easy. I took my father, brother and his fiance up the normal route to the hidden valley last year. Left the car park at 8:30, we were back by 15:30 with lots of long breaks (23km to the far end of the valley and back again).

The hike is fairly easy and very scenic.

I'm hoping to hit Monteseel for some trad climbing next weekend, so if you'd like to do some trad near Durban next weekend, let me know
