Its funny to think that when I go to the berg to hike, I also beg for it to snow but however over this long weekend if all goes to plan will be trying to climb the Column. So I am wishing that the weather remains warm and clear.

Whatever happens I wish everyone a good trip.

I'm hitting Corner Pass, so I'm hoping the snow won't be too heavy. A bit is fine - makes for some great photos. A lot makes for a story of 4 hikers crammed into a small corner of a cave trying not to die of hypothermia.

I'm happy the forecast for Mafadi is up from -14 at 2pm on Saturday to -12. At this rate it will be 0 on the day B)

Yr.no has over 10mm (wet volume) of snow for Mafadi on Friday - sub-zero but clear on Saturday.

Here is a summary of the expected snowfall for the next 3 days. Note most of this snow is forecast to fall on Thursday:

Freezing levels on Friday are expected to be between 2400m and 2800m, so if you're going to be on the escarpment, temperatures should be below zero all day!

I'm with DoctorG on this one - the less snow the better!

Or as long as it snows everywhere else except for the corridor up to Mafadi via Leslie's Pass. With current forecasts, it looks like Friday is off and I'll have to hope for a minimal snow attempt on Saturday...

Ghaz and co, fancy meeting me at the top? If all goes well, possibly 11:30-12:00. Unfortunately I won't be able to hang around and chat though. ;)

Forecast couldnt be better! We did amphitheatre 2 years back when it had snowed all night and when we woke to white mountains and not a cloud in the sky, We were like children on x-mas day!! :silly:
Everything had just about melted by 1pm on hike day so worked out great.
Keep safe everyone!!

Ghaz, we have done corner in knee to waist deep snow, it was some of the most fun I have ever had in the berg. A hiking stick or 2 really helps especially where the snow hides the gaps between the rocks. We also hoisted our backpacks with a rope past the first scramble since it felt a bit to slippery to attempt it with packs.
Enjoy!
